And are largely equivalent in specs, except that DS216+II has an eSATA port and DS416play has 4 drive bays.However, Synology has decided not to make Docker available on the DS416play. As far as I can tell, it's purely a business decision.What's the easiest way to get Docker running without using the Synology package manager? I noticed that there's no package on ipkg yet, should I attempt to make one?I don't know if anybody else has noticed this yet. It's pretty rotten, it would be ideal if the people at Synology allowed the Docker package for DS416play rather than force customers to find other unsupported methods. I too came across this when our vendor updated our order for a DS415+ to the DS416Play. Needless to say I was shocked to see that Docker was not supported.
Obviously it's just an OS restriction since the device can handle it, so I called support. Here is the very simple method of getting Docker (and possible other apps) on your DS416Play. Go to the Synology Download Center:. From the device type, select 4-bay and for model, select DS415+.
Find Docker in the list and download the spk file. Now go to the Package Center on your DS416Play and click the Manual Install button.
