Depth of field is one of the graphical settings in Fallout 76. It’s the one that adds a bunch of motion blur to the image, instead of leaving everything crispy clear when you move. A number of people don’t like it, and for some it even causes physical discomfort. There are ways to lower it in the game’s settings, but turning it off completely from the game is impossible. If you’re playing on PC, there’s a way to shut it down by tweaking an ini file. This guide will show you how to disable blur & depth of field in Fallout 76.
Fallout 76 How to Disable Blur & Depth of Field on PC How to turn of DoF in FO76?UPDATE: check out new information in the section bellow.First of all, you’ll need to locate the ini file in question. If you’ve installed it using the game’s recommended folder structure, it will be in /Bethesda.net Launcher/games/Fallout 76/. The file is called Fallout76.ini. Create a backup copy somewhere before making any changes, so you can revert to it if things go awry.Open it up in notepad, and scroll down to the display section.
At the end of the section, add a line saying bDynamicDepthOfField=0. Save the file and run the game – everything should be in order now.Keep in mind that you shouldn’t make any other changes in the game’s settings after you’ve done this, at least not from the menu itself. The game has been known to overwrite ini file changes when you do that. Hopefully this gets fixed soon, but until then, stick with making the ini file changes after you’ve tweaked the in-game settings to your desire. While you’re there, you can inspect the other options as well.
There may be some things you can change that aren’t accessible from the menu, and the file is pretty straightforward. If an option is missing, you can try adding it yourself using the Fallout 4 config file as a guide – they’re pretty much the same.
Updated Depth of Field removal instructions in Fallout 76You still have to make changes to your Fallout 76 ini file to remove Depth of Field, but you might have to change more options with the launch version of the game. Please be warned that it is unclear whether Bethesda considers changes to the ini file to be inappropriate activity so everything you do going forward you are doing on your own responsibility.People are reporting that you can create a custom ini file in your Fallout 76 installation folder and this is the first method we will explain here. Go to the folder where your game is installed (you can find the default by typing into your windows explorer address bar the following:%PROGRAMFILES(X86)%Bethesda.net LaunchergamesFallout76).
Create a new file there called Fallout76Custom.ini. It should contain the following lines:DisplaybFull Screen=1bFullScreen=1bBorderless=0fDOFBlendRatio=0fDOFMinFocalCoefDist=999999fDOFMaxFocalCoefDist=99999999fDOFDynamicFarRange=99999999fDOFCenterWeightInt=0fDOFFarDistance=99999999ImageSpacebDoDepthOfField=0bDoRadialBlur=0iRadialBlurLevel=0bDynamicDepthOfField=0bMBEnable=0bScreenSpaceBokeh=0bLensFlare=0If putting the custom ini file in the game install folder does not work for you you should try and create it in your documents folder. Navigate to your My Documents folder, then My Games, then Fallout 76.
You can also type this in into your Windows Explorer address bar without quotation marks: “%UserProfile%documentsMy gamesFallout 76”. In there create a file called Fallout76Custom.ini and insert the text from above. Save the file and then start the game. Depth of field should be removed. Do note that your game will run in Fullscreen mode and have Window borderless mode disabled.
If you do not want this change just change the options in your custom ini file. To revert to regular game settings delete your custom Fallout 76 ini file. Credit for this information goes to several players and people on reddit, but mostly to.
